Amazon launched a new Fire TV Stick 4K on 30 September 2026 and simplified its streaming sticks into three clear tiers. Older models such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Select are still sold while supplies last, which makes the choice a little confusing. Here’s what each one is for.
Amazon’s Fire TV Stick line-up (October 2026)
| Model | Best for | What stands out |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick HD | HD TVs, second TVs, budget | Amazon’s most affordable stick, launched earlier in 2026 with a slim design |
| Fire TV Stick 4K (new) | Most 4K TVs | 4K at up to 60fps, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, Wi-Fi 6, 8GB storage, powers from your TV’s USB port, Alexa+ built in |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Gaming and home theater | Faster performance, more storage, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and Alexa+ Home Theater support |
| Fire TV Cube | Enthusiasts | Amazon’s top streaming box, with hands-free Alexa+ voice control |
The new Fire TV Stick 4K: best value for most people
Amazon calls the new Stick 4K its best balance of speed and value. In Amazon’s own testing, it got to content roughly 20–40% faster than a similarly priced 4K stick from another leading brand, and played content faster than the built-in apps on three popular 4K smart TVs. It also has a neat practical touch: Direct Power lets you run it from your TV’s USB port with the included cable, so there’s one less plug to hide.
Price: $59.99 regularly, and $29.99 during Prime Big Deal Days (October 6–7) in the US, according to Amazon. It ships with the new Fire TV Remote.

Fire TV Stick 4K Max: worth it for home theater
The difference that matters most: Amazon lists Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos as 4K Max features, while the new Stick 4K’s listed formats are HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. If you have a TV that supports Dolby Vision, or a soundbar or speakers with Atmos, the 4K Max gets more out of them. It’s also the one to pick for cloud gaming or if you install lots of apps, thanks to more storage and faster performance.
Fire TV Stick HD: fine for HD screens
If your TV isn’t 4K, as with many bedroom, kitchen and RV TVs, there’s no point paying for 4K. The HD stick is the cheapest way to add streaming apps to an older or smaller TV.
What about the Fire TV Stick 4K Select?
The 4K Select is an earlier model that Amazon will keep selling while supplies last. It can be a good buy if its price is clearly lower than the new Stick 4K’s sale price, but compare carefully: during Prime Big Deal Days, the new model at $29.99 may be the better deal.

Before you buy
- Check your TV. 4K and Dolby Vision only help if your TV supports them; check its model number.
- New remote. Amazon’s redesigned Fire TV Remote is also sold on its own (preorder, shipping late October) if you only want to upgrade an existing stick.
- Subscriptions are extra. Netflix, Disney+, Max and other services need their own subscriptions; Prime Video is included with Prime.
